The World Health Organization’s ICD (International Classification of Diseases) provides a foundation for helping world organizations identify diseases and causes of death. The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) is ready to begin implementation of the new ICD-11 code set, transitioning away from ICD-10.
However, they are still lacking some much-needed information. ICD-11 will go into effect in 2022, but it is expected that it will take longer for the new code set to be fully implemented as research, development and legislation continue.
