American Libraries Get More Attention Than Movie Theaters

This may surprise many of you, but Americans are almost twice as likely, on average, to visit the library than they are to go to the movies. This comes from a recent poll taken by Gallup.

Americans were asked about frequency of visits to libraries and theaters, as well as sporting events, live music/theatrical events, national and historical parks, museums, casinos, amusement parks and the zoo. Library visits came out far ahead of any of the other activities.

Women were more likely to head to the library than men and Americans aged 30 to 49 had the highest occurrence of library visits. The poll also found that Americans in low-income households were visiting the library with greater frequency than those in high-income households.
