Chewing Gum Could Help Reduce The Spread Of COVID-19

Scientists are testing gum stuffed with plant-based copies of our cell receptors. These receptors are what COVID-19 uses to latch onto our body’s tissues. Using these receptors in gum helps to reduce the viral load of COVID-19 in our saliva.

While more testing is needed, the gum would taste just like any other gum, would be relatively cheap and would trap up to 95% of the viral particles in your saliva.

The gum would be especially helpful for countries with limited access to vaccines and for people who choose not to get vaccinated.
