CMS released a new inpatient rule recently that would change reporting requirements to pre-COVID-19 levels. Previously, hospitals had to disclose privately-negotiated rates with insurers.
Providers and insurers hated the mandate, but failed multiple appeals to get it changed.
The new rule states that hospitals have to disclose rates with payers, but do not have to submit cost reports to CMS.
