Cold Water Swimming Could Help Slow Dementia

Some of us may think that swimming in extremely cold water is crazy, but it could hold a key to dementia treatment.

The shock of cold water on the human body causes the production of a protein called RBM3. This protein helps synapses in the brain reconnect. While swimming in freezing water definitely is not for everyone, scientists are working to develop a drug that would help stimulate production of RBM3.

If they can help slow or turn back dementia, it would have enormous benefits.
