Most everyone knows how dangerous it is to text or use your cellphone while you are driving. But now there are studies being done to assess just how dangerous it is to text while walking.
People using their cellphones while walking are obviously distracted, but are also less likely to look both ways at crosswalks. This in turn leads to close calls and traffic accidents.
Texting while walking is even more of a distraction than just talking on your cellphone or listening to music. Some countries have taken steps to help prevent these kinds of accidents, such as lowering speed limits and closing down major downtown streets.
However, in America, most cities and states still have a long way to go before the dangers of distracted driving and distracted walking are lessened to an appreciable degree.
