Make Your Brain Healthier With An Afternoon Nap

If you love a good afternoon nap, then you’re in luck. Recent studies are finding that afternoon naps can help improve your mental agility and cognitive function as you age.

Those who took afternoon naps lasting more than five minutes but less than two hours were shown to have higher cognitive performance, higher levels of triglycerides and better language function and memory.

Subjects had normal amounts of nighttime sleep, so naps should not take the place or supplement sleep disruptions at night.

Naps in the afternoon should be kept under two hours, as longer naps have been shown to actually hurt cognitive function.
