Painkillers Are Becoming More Sustainable To Produce

Traditionally, many painkillers were produced using ingredients obtained from crude oil. However, in a new study at the University of Bath, researchers have found a way to use waste products from the paper industry instead.

Using beta-pinene, a turpentine byproduct from pine trees, and an abundant resource, the researchers are leading the way to more eco-friendly production of painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol. This could end up paving the way for large changes in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
