The American Red Cross Is Experiencing A Blood Crisis

With cases of Omicron surging, the American Red Cross is now facing a shortage in their available blood supply. They now have less than a three day supply, which is the bare minimum necessary to meet hospital demand.

The Red Cross is raising awareness and urging people to donate to help save lives. All types of blood are needed, especially O positive and O negative.

One hospital is currently short hundreds of units of blood. A single transfusion is usually three units, but a victim of a car accident may need as much as 100 units.

Some of the normal avenues of giving blood have become restricted since the pandemic began and blood collection has been unable to keep up with demand. If you are able to give blood, please tell friends and family and make an appointment through redcrossblood.com.
