Hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise as the COVID-19 Delta variant makes its way across the US. Many of these could be avoided by ensuring more individuals are getting vaccinated.
The cost of unvaccinated individuals on the healthcare system is reaching into the billions of dollars, $2.3 billion in June and July alone. That cost is taken on by society as much as by the patients themselves due to taxpayer-funded programs and private insurance premiums.
Estimates suggest that the cost of caring for COVID-19 patients could reach over $500 billion.
